STILETTOS EAST OF TULSA

Michele

A little bit country, a little bit rock and roll, this lively, impulsive shoot was a visual expose of Michele’s heritage on the family’s eastern Oklahoma cattle ranch.  This eclectic mix of a posh young woman against a backdrop of range landscape and a herd of cattle was the perfect combination, and honestly, whoever thought cattle could be sexy?

As someone familiar with cattle, I can tell you that they are fairly easy to incorporate into frame due to their predictable curiosity and gentle nature.  We found several “pasture-scapes” that rivaled the best studios, and finally topped off the shoot with Michele taking a dip in the cattle pond.  The water was chilly, yes, but our primary concern was the grouchy population of snapping turtles who claimed the pond as their territory.  Michele stepped gingerly through the muddy bottom toward her preselected spot for photos, and we came away with success.  Best of all?  She still has all her toes.

SAM I AM

Sam the Clydesdale is now 15 years old. He aches a little and his joints creak a bit - he's a big horse. He's seen a lot of miles in the show ring as a top athlete. He has slowed down due to age, and the younger Clydesdales have taken over. His loving owner, Audrey, recently retired him and he gets the best of care with a nice comfy stall. Still, there is anxiousness in his eyes when he watches the trailer load up with the younger athletes while he stays at home. Audrey decided that rather than use one of her star performers for her portraits, she would have her photos taken with Sam. He eagerly put on his show collar and enjoyed the shoot - even cutting us all up a few times. These are the moments that make my job the greatest, and they remind me that there are still super-star people out there. In this collection of images are the Clydesdale performances at Del Mar, California's esteemed, Night of the Horse.  Enjoy.

BERTHUSEN PARK

McKenna

Blue eyes in the park.  McKenna loves clothes, school, her friends, and her 4-H projects which include horses and pigs. She wanted a private shoot at the park while wearing some of her favorite clothes.  What a beautiful, serious little girl who made a fabulous model.

CHRISTMAS CLYDESDALE

Sierra & Bentley

One of my clients near Lincoln, Nebraska needed some snow shots of her "pet" for the upcoming holidays. Did I mention he's a 2,000 Clydesdale stallion? We had a ball in the late afternoon snowscape.
